Katherine
I'm Katherine, a neurodivergent mother dedicated to community wellbeing and nurturing connections.
My story
My life has been shaped by various challenges, which taught me early on the importance of owning my story. By embracing my experiences, I discovered the power to change my narrative and support others on their journeys. At just 19 I became a qualified youth worker, dedicating my efforts to vulnerable young people in residential care. My journey has since led me to working in Mental Health Recovery, Disability Employment, and the NDIS.
Having lived in five states, I often felt like I was searching for a place to call home. That changed when I moved to Adelaide, where I finally found a sense of belonging. Although there's still so much to explore, I truly cherish the opportunity to raise my children in such a beautiful environment. The connection I feel to this place inspires me to nurture my family and communities' growth and well-being.
Why Bright Star?
I choose to work at Bright Star because it emphasizes grassroots community support, prioritizing holistic and collaborative services as a foundational principle rather than a goal. This approach resonates deeply with my values as I believe that genuine connections and comprehensive care are essential for fostering positive change.

Joining the team has been a truly enriching experience, allowing me to collaborate with like-minded individuals who are equally passionate about making a difference. Together, we create an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered, ultimately benefiting the community we serve.
What are my likes?
I have a deep appreciation for nature—whether it's spending time in a peaceful forest or enjoying a camping trip under the stars. There's something magical about watching the night sky and counting the moving lights. I also find joy in the energy of a good storm and love getting lost in a great book. Above all, I cherish quality time with my children, and working part-time has allowed me to maintain a beautiful work-life balance. This flexibility enables me to truly enjoy being a parent while also supporting our participants and community in meaningful ways.
What does my work look like?
As a Support Coordinator at Bright Star, my role is multifaceted and dynamic. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities, making my work incredibly engaging. I enjoy collaborating with participants to help them navigate the NDIS, empowering them to build their confidence and enhance their quality of life. This variety keeps my days interesting and fulfilling, as I witness the positive impact we make together.
