Bianca
Hi my name is Bianca. I am proudly autistic and neurodivergent. My pronouns are they/them.
My story
I grew up with 4 other siblings, some a lot older than me. I was diagnosed later in life as autistic and then suddenly all the challenges and struggles I had made sense!
When my son was diagnosed, I knew myself as a parent to an autistic child and became involved in the community trying to educate myself and wanting to make a difference. Fast foward a few years and I became diagnosed, and although it made sense, my community circle became smaller. I was determined to understand myself and then advocate for others. My hyperfocus became my passion.
I did 6 years independent work as a support worker and then I opened Bright Star Support Services. I got my qualification in other areas also, including counselling.

My life hasn't been easy (but seriously whose life has been) and I have had many challenges, but I have come out stronger, wiser, and actually kinder. Kinder to others but actually kinder
Why Bright Star?
I value who we are at Bright Star. The ethos and values that created Bright Star are my own values and morals which I pride myself in.

The word kindness is so much more than a doing word, for me it is unconditional. I don't expect kindness back, I give kindness because I want to. Because at the end of the day I want to be that person who throws the starfish back into the ocean and help make a difference to even that one starfish.
(If you haven't heard of the starfish story, look it up!)
What are my likes?
Oh, I like doing so many things! I enjoy crafts specifically resin and acrylics.
During the summer I enjoy evening walks on the beach. I like to travel near and far BUT I don't like to pack!! At the end of a busy week, I enjoy reconnecting with my children and partner with ice cream and walking the jetty. I love Marvel and Ninja Turtles. And I love listening to music and playing the piano.
What does my work look like?
My role within Bright Star is a hard one to define. I of course am Director, but I also do some administrative duties. I am involved in the advocacy side of things in regard to NDIS and helping prepare for planning meetings. And I run workshops and trainings within the therapeutic space of Emotional-CPR and understanding your neurodiversity.
