Eryka
I'm Eryka, I'm Aboriginal and my family are Narungga and Kaurna. My pronouns are she/her.
My story
I've come from a family that's exploring their own neurodiversity journey, so I have a lot of lived experience where I draw my skills from. When I was younger I lived in Queensland for just over a year and it made me remember how much I missed South Australia. I know I feel most at home here, our people are kinder, and the air is much less humid.
I've visited Cambodia twice in my life to build classrooms, teach English, and connect with children in local orphanages. My time in Cambodia gave me a new perspective on life that I carry with me today. I noticed that there are so many things we take for granted and that there's so much joy in the people in these communities.
If I were to describe myself, I'd use the words creative and resourceful. You'd be able to see my creativity and resourcefulness most when I'm camping or working on one of my many D.I.Y. projects. One day I plan to build myself an awesome camper van and live off-grid while exploring the whole country.
Why Bright Star?
I love to work with like-minded people, staff and clients included. I also find that Bright Star's management staff are very supportive of their employees. I like working with Bright Star for lots of other reasons too.

I like Bright Star's values of empowerment and compassion most. I try to live by these values every day.
What are my likes?
I love my two dogs a lot. If you ask me about them, I'll happily tell you all about them. My 4-year-old dog is very uncoordinated while my 8-year-old dog loves to play fetch. I enjoy taking them out on walks exploring nearby forests and lakes.
Outside of my love for dogs, I like sports and trying new and exciting things. I play netball and love to watch netball, footy, and ice hockey. I've even been skydiving before (and loved it)! Next on my bucket list is bungy jumping. At the moment I'm enjoying learning to crochet with a client.
What does my work look like?
A day at work for me usually involves mentoring my clients, encouraging them to eat well, and supporting them through daily chores. I often work with families and usually provide support with morning routines. I love chatting with my clients and getting to know them. Sometimes we can get carries away in conversation, but I like that! I'm always ready to talk about anything with anyone. I most enjoy getting out of the house and trying new things with my clients.
