Réna

Hi, my name is Réna (she/her).

My story

I grew up in the UK, and I’m the middle child of a small family. I emigrated to Australia over a decade ago with my partner, young daughter and was pregnant with our second child. I was surrounded by amazing people so the 15,000kms move was one of the hardest decisions of my entire life. I had never visited Australia before we emigrated, but my curious and venturesome nature got the better of me.

I was intent on being part of a community when we arrived so took every opportunity to be involved. I joined a walking group, book club and parent groups and put myself out there and have been lucky to find a wonderful group of people to share my adventure with. I also volunteered at my son’s kindy and continue to do so despite him leaving almost 7 years ago. I am grateful that they allow me to keep coming along!

I am always searching for ways to connect with others and make them feel appreciated, so I really prioritise these times in my life. I am a biracial person and have experienced exclusion, so I am very much about inclusion in all facets. Everyone is welcome! The more, the merrier!

Why Bright Star?

I have always been drawn to roles where caring and compassion was high on the agenda and Bright Star enables me to do this. I am able to play to my strengths and am rewarded with the opportunity to support and care for some amazing people.

I love my clients and those that I get to spend time with at work. I’ve been lucky enough to assist others and value all the connections that I’ve made. I live day to day with chronic illness so I have a huge appreciation for the needs and wants of families within Bright Star.

What are my likes?

I enjoy having fun and encountering new experiences. I enjoy sports and music and these are very important to my family as a whole. I love to travel with family and friends and creating new memories. I enjoy reading and like experiencing life through someone else’s point of view. I love entertaining and spending time with those around me. I take great joy from hosting parties, events and special occasions for friends and neighbours (and family when they visit!).

What does my work look like?

No two days are the same at Bright Star and I love that about my job. I support clients with their day to day living whatever that may be. From simply being a supportive ear and helping to explain things, assisting with tasks at home or in the garden, booking and taking clients to appointments, supporting a client through their love of dance, being a client’s voice when they are having a non-verbal day, supporting them through a crisis, everything and anything to help them achieve their personal and practical goals.
